I spent this last weekend in Okinawa just to take some time off to relax. It was hella last minute and I kind of just booked my flights and hotels just the week before! Made things a little more expensive than they could have been, but I think it was still pretty decently priced.
It was a solo trip. Plain and simple solo trip. Although I met up with a couple of my Okinawan peeps, I spent most of that weekend alone. At first, I was a little bummed because some people would look at me with pity when I said that I was going alone.BUT I got over it pretty quickly with a kind of an “I don’t really give a fuck” mentality. Whether that’s been for or against me is still up in the air.
Anyway, it was a hella chill trip. The first day there, I just dropped off my luggage at the hotel and looked around the area until check-in. A friend of mine contacted me and we met up, had a bite to eat and just chatted for hella long. We parted ways and I got to bed hella early because 1) I had been up since 3AM and 2) I was going to wake up hella early the next morning to go on a little trip to an island. Unfortunately for me, that friend I had met up with earlier in the day was out drinking with his friends and got drunk. He proceeded to text and call hella times for hours. Maybe I was too tired to think straight, but it wasn’t until later that I realized that I should just turn off all the notifications LOL.
I took a little day trip to an island, 20 minutes off the coast of Naha. I went para-sailing and scuba diving for the first time ever. Para-sailing was fun and all, but scuba diving was amazing. All the little fish come up to you and then swim away w. We got the opportunity to feed the fish as well! I played with a starfish (which I subsequently named Patrick) and we came across two clownfish. TEE HEE Nemo and Marlin. Although there was no funky fin involved. Later, I went to Kokusai-dori and made a shi-sa
I slept in the next morning and just chilled out in my hotel room. Another friend hit me up and told me that she would leave school to come hang out with me! I felt kind of bad for having her leaver her work and all, but I was hella happy that she was willing to make that time for me. We went to eat lunch, browsed shops, hit up some tourist locations, and just talked for a bit. She had her license so she took me to some places that would have been harder for to get to by train.
The last day, I just woke up, got some breakfast, browsed the shops for souvenirs, ate lunch, bought said souvenirs, then chilled at Starbucks for the next several hours with my Kindle. I seriously did not have time to really go anywhere or even possibly the energy to. I went and chilled at a park near the hotel as the time for my bus approached. Said bus came, I went to the airport, got dinner, and then found out that my flight was delayed by almost an hour. It wouldn’t be so much of a problem except for the fact that I was already cutting it close with the trains when I got back.
It all turned out alright. I got back to my apartment past midnight, but at least I got back that night. It was unexpectedly a slightly exhausting experience. OR the difference in the pace of life was just too great between Okinawa and Tokyo that my body and mind had difficulty keeping up. But overall, I felt that it was a great experience for me to just spend time alone, doing whatever the fuck I felt like doing. I’m really looking forward to my next trip out somewhere in Japan.
